The Elder Mediation International Network (EMIN) is very pleased to recognize the immense contribution of Siun Kearney, M.Soc.Sc.,LLB to Elder Mediation with our most prestigious award, the EMIN Reagh/Kipping Leadership Award.
Siún Kearney has been a practising mediator since 1989 and was a founding member of the Mediators Institute of Ireland (MII) in 1992. Siun was one of the pioneers of Family Mediation in Ireland and held the post of Accreditation Director on the MII Board from 1995 until 2001 and remained on the Executive until 2005. In 2015 the MII recognised Siun for her excellence in family mediation. The award acknowledged the positive and trailblazing work, the energy and commitment that Siun has exemplified in her career as a mediator.
In 2012, Siun was one of the first group of Irish mediators to attain the EMIN-certified Elder Mediator status, having started her training in Elder Mediation in 2010. Since then, Siún has become an outstanding advocate for Elder Mediation in Ireland, both working as a mediator and participating in various EMIN events, as well as working with her Elder Mediation colleagues in Ireland. Over the last couple of years Siún, as the representative of the Family Sector within the Mediator’s Institute of Ireland, worked tirelessly with EMIN to help draw up an understanding between EMIN and the MII that resulted in the MII mandating that all Elder Mediators in Ireland be EMIN-Certified.
Siún’s drive and energy was fundamental to achieving this outcome, as was her deep understanding of Elder Mediation and her strong desire that mediators operate to the highest possible standards for us to give the best possible service to those with whom we work. Siún is a valued and trusted colleague and we in EMIN look forward to working with her over the coming years in ensuring that her committed and valuable work bears good fruit.
Siún is a very worthy recipient of this award, and we are delighted to honour her.
