Mediators Celebrate and Build on the Good Friday Agreement with Tánaiste
Tánaiste Micheál Martin Shares 25 Lessons from the Peace Process at MII Annual Conference in Cork.

Saturday, 7th October 2023: “Throughout its 31 years in existence the Mediators’ Institute of Ireland (MII) has striven through the practice of mediation to enhance peace-making across the island of Ireland,” stated President of the MII Ber Barry-Murray. “Conference is reflecting on the success and lessons of the Good Friday process 25 years ago. MII members are committed to using our skills to continue to build and strengthen peace-building among communities across Ireland. We’re honoured to have the Tánaiste to reflect and learn from his insights on the Peace Process. We’re also delighted that Cork Lord Mayor Kieran McCarty is presenting a Lifetime Achievement Award to MII member Geoffrey Corry, who played a pivotal role in the Irish peace process negotiations through his involvement with Glencree Reconciliation Centre.” President Barry-Murray was speaking at the MII, annual conference, in the Metropole Hotel, Cork, which is taking place this weekend.
“Mediators and the Glencree Reconciliation centre played a key role in delivering the Good Friday Agreement. In the 25 years since the agreement, mediators have helped maintain that peace. However, we must continue to promote peace-building and mediation skills particularly among a younger generation who have been fortunate to escape experience of the violence of the past. I welcome MII’s focus on strengthening peace-building capacity across the island,” said Tánaiste Micheál Martin, who participating in the Saturday morning session “25 Lessons from the Peace Process” with Naoimh McNamee, CEO Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation.
Keynote conference speakers include the Hon. Ms. Justice Siobhán Lankford “Mediation – A Judicial Consideration”, Professor Noam Ebner “Mediation, Artificial Intelligence, and Change”, and Kevin Brassell Operations Manager, Irish Red Cross “Mediation Matters Across the World”.
