Certified Mediation Training
To give participants the required level of skills, knowledge and attitudes to enable them to practice as Certified Mediators
Course Objectives:
- To develop an understanding and knowledge of mediation theory, principles, practice and methods
- To gain an awareness in participants of their own styles and approaches to dealing with conflict
- To develop a theoretical understanding of conflict, managing conflict and principles of conflict resolution
- To develop understanding of different styles and models of mediation
- To give participants an understanding of the structures and processes involved in mediation
- To raise awareness of the external context of mediation i.e. role in dispute resolution, working with other professionals, ethical dilemmas etc.
- To raise awareness of the influence of one’s own professional and personal assumptions and biases on the mediation process
- To develop effective skills, knowledge and attitudes in mediation to meet the certified assessment requirements
- To give participants an opportunity to practice skills in simulated role plays
- To develop confidence and ability in participants and enable them to practice as certified mediators on completion of the course
Methodology: Training will be based on principles of adult learning and of accelerated learning and involve didactic presentations, interactive group discussion, video demonstrations, simulated role plays as well as participants completing required reading and submitting relevant written assignment.
Assessment: Essay assignment (3,000) words and MII Role play.
Mary is an accredited Practitioner Mediator and Conflict Management Coach, and has mediated, trained and coached in conflict-related areas (conflict management skills, bullying and harassment) in a wide range of organizations and workplaces in the public, community and voluntary sectors. Mary is also Chairperson of Mediation Border Counties, a volunteer mediation service that works mainly with separating couples in the Cavan/Monaghan area. With a background in education and social work, Mary has many years’ experience in training and educating adults ranging from lecturing on the Masters in Dispute Resolution, Independent Colleges to delivery of accredited training in mediation as well as an approved trainer in CINERGY ™ Conflict Management Coaching. Mary is a director of the Mediators’ Institute of Ireland and Chairperson of the Accreditation Policy Committee.
